June 9 — Independent goth rock band The God Bombs premiered its latest single and video this week.
The band debuted its new single, ‘Bleed‘ and the song’s video Friday. The song is the band’s first new music since the premiere of its then latest single, ‘Black and Yellow‘ and its video in February.
The band’s new single presents a unique, intriguing musical arrangement much unlike that of its predecessor. The Marilyn Manson influence is as evident here as in ‘Black and Yellow’ but in the case of this arrangement, audiences who listen closely can also hear an influence of early Coal Chamber alongside that Manson style work.
According to a statement from the band, the song’s lyrical theme is one of dealing with one’s own negative thoughts and that the message in question is directly tied to the song’s video.
“‘Bleed’ is a horror film about mental illness,” the statement reads in part. “It’s about feeling lost in life, with the voice in your head telling you you’re nothing. We can all relate to having that voice. The voice in this case is represented by a creepy haunted porcelain doll which beckons the protagonist to a house of horrors. There, he faces the monsters of his mind.”
The protagonist in the video is the band’s front man Justin Symbol.
The band’s statement continues about the video.
“The idea for the film came from director/cinematographer/editor Jason Kaplan, singer Justin Symbol, and bassist West Rozen, who provided locations,” The statement notes. “This film is the latest in a series of collaborations between The God Bombs and Jason Kaplan. In the end, the main character is victorious over the demons of his mind and the doll is left in a pool of blood. The line “Now you bleed” is directed at the doll. Therefore, “BLEED” is ultimately about conquering one’s fears to reach one’s full potential. We hope to eventually expand this music video into a short horror film.”
