July 6 — Punk rock outfit The Venomous Pinks is adding its voice to the ongoing debate over abortion rights in America.

The band entered the arena this week with the debut of the video for its new single, ‘We Must Prevail.’ The video features the band performing its new single on a sound stage as virtual rain falls on the band and as people hold signs and chant in support of abortion rights. Meanwhile a woman dressed in part to look like the Statue of Liberty and in part like Lady Justice cries as she holds a bloody wire coat hanger. The song plays over the collective visualization.

The band’s new single is a response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent overturning of the controversial Roe V. Wade decision. The court’s ruling effectively banned abortions nationwide.

Alexander Thomas and Nikki Carmela co-directed The Venomous Pinks’ new video and shared the following comments regarding the video and the band’s stance on the matter:

“The right to choose is a human rights issue at its core. We stand vehemently against oppression in all forms and appreciate the opportunity to voice our dissent using art. When we first conceptualized this video we based it on a series of photographs we had created when Roe was initially repealed depicting Lady Liberty, bloodied from a coat hanger abortion to represent the current tidal shift of our society. The images, although disturbing, represent the reality that with abortion bans healthcare has been pushed back decades.”

The statement continued, “Combined with images of the Supreme Court house cracking (a blatant metaphor for the disintegration of the “highest law in the land” who’s building is emboldened with the phrase “Equal Justice Under Law”) and the electric music of The Venomous Pinks this video is a protest to abortion bans and the assault of women’s rights.”

Vocalist/guitarist Drea Doll also addressed the topic and the song.

“The government does not have the right to tell a woman what she should be doing with her own body,” Doll said. “To quote Angela Rose Red (Photographer/Writer) ‘Angered by the misogynist men who forcefully shove religion into our uterus.’”

‘We Must Prevail’ is the finale from The Venomous Pinks’ latest album, Vita Mors, which is available now through SBAM Records.
