Sept. 22 — Independent hard rock band Lydia Can’t Breathe debuted its latest single and video this week.
The band kicked off the weekend by debuting its new single, ‘Killerz‘ and the song’s companion video. The song’s musical arrangement is an intriguing presentation that blends elements of metalcore, nu-metal, and even some melodic rock. The nu-metal and metalcore leanings are presented in the song’s verses and are easily comparable to works from the likes of Memphis May Fire and Limp Bizkit while the more melodic choruses lend themselves to comparison to works from the likes of SR-71. It truly is a unique whole that is engaging and entertaining in tis own right.
Front man Kyle Bolduc talked about the song’s lyrical theme and how it dies into the song’s video in a prepared statement:
“The visuals we got in this video are unreal!,” Boduc said. “We shot it at an airport and got actual skydiving footage! The song tells a dark and heavy tale of a mercenary. The protagonist is consumed by his lust for power and respect, which he derives from his terrifying profession. The chorus is a chilling plea for mercy, suggesting the perspective of the hitman’s victims. The song speaks to the desperation, fear and regret that can come from making dangerous choices, and the brutal reality of a life ruled by power and violence. It gives a raw and visceral insight into both psyche of the violent enforcer and the fear of those facing imminent death.”
The premiere of Lydia Can’t Breath’s new single Friday came more than four months after the band debuted its then latest sinjgle, ‘Please Be Over‘ and its video. The single presents a musical arrangement whose brooding verses and heavier choruses make for an interesting aggro-rock style composition that lends itself easily to comparison to works from the likes of Breaking Benjamin.
The contrast of moods in the song’s verses and choruses makes sense when taking into account, the song’s lyrical theme, which according to information provided about the song, centers on the all too familiar topic of a broken relationship.
