Sept. 15 — Metallica premiered the video for the latest single from its album, 72 Seasons, this week.

The band unveiled the video for its single, ‘Too Far Gone?‘ Thursday. The video — directed by Coan “Buddy” Nichols — is being marketed as a “live” presentation and while it does feature footage of the band performing live Aug. 6, 2023 at MetLife Stadium, that footage is coupled with footage of skateboarder Felipe Nunes developing his skills over the years as the studio rendition of the song plays over the whole. To that end, the video is not necessarily live in the purest since but does take the familiar track of showing live footage of a band as part of the presentation.

No information was provided about the new single in the news release announcing the video’s premiere. The lyrics provided with the video hint at the song perhaps tackling the theme of addiction and the tie therein to mental health. That is just this critic’s interpretation.

Metallica’s performance at MetLife Stadium was part of the recently completed North American leg of the band’s M72 World Tour. The North American leg of the tour wrapped Sept. 9 in Glendale, AZ. The band is set to make a headlining performance Oct. 8 at Power Trip at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, CA. From there, the band is scheduled to perform Nov. 3 and 5 at The Dome at America’s Center in St. Louis, MO.

The North American leg of the band’s M72 tour also resulted in a live theatrical show of its performance in Arlington, TX Aug. 18 and 20.
