Sept. 19 — Of Mice & Men gave audiences another preview of its forthcoming album, Tether this week.
The preview came in the form of the album’s latest single, ‘Indigo‘ and the song’s visualizer. The song and its visualizer are the album’s third behind the album’s most recently released single, ‘Castaway‘ and the song’s companion video, and its lead single, ‘Warpaint‘ and its video.
The musical arrangement featured in the band’s new single is an intriguing presentation. There is almost a Devin Townsend style approach and sound in the more melodic heaviness in this song. It is a unique departure for the band yet so welcome.
The song’s musical arrangement especially works when taking into account its lyrical theme. According to front man Aaron Pauley, the song’s lyrical theme takes on the topic of dealing with mental health in a unique fashion.
“‘Indigo’ is about questioning why the sky would choose to be blue if it had the choice to be anything else — blue also meaning sad,” states Pauley. “It’s about comforting a loved one in a time of loss by telling them you feel blue, too.”
