Oct. 17 — A cult classic movie will make its way back to theaters as the year ends.
Monty Python and the Holy Grail will celebrate its 48 1/2 year anniversary Dec. 3 by returning to theaters nationwide. The movie will run in select theaters via Iconic Events Releasing and Mercury Studios. Tickets for the special anniversary event are available here.
An encore showing of the timeless classic is scheduled for Dec. 6. For the most devoted fans of the cult classic, select theaters will offer the movie in what is being called a “Quote-A-Long” version that will allow audiences to recite so many lines along with the movie’s cast.
Terry Gilliam, who is a member of the original Monty Python comedy collective, talked about the movie in a prepared statement.
“Both Terry (Jones) and I were very keen on Pasolini’s films because they were always done in real places,” Gilliam said. ““You could smell them, you could (sniffs), you could feel it, the textures, the sounds and everything were all real and that was what we were trying to achieve, just that kind of reality. And I think in the end we did; we achieved a lot because nobody had done comedy like that before where you were so immersed in the time and place and the filth.”
Michael Palin, another member of the original collective added to Gilliam’s comments, noting that “In the declining years of his life, Elvis himself watched [the film]. That just blew my mind!”
Monty Python and the Holy Grail originally premiered in 1975 through Python (Monty) Pictures, Michael White Productions and the National Film Trustee Company. Since then it has gone on to global fame and has seen multiple re-issues on DVD and Blu-ray.
