Dec. 21 — Arrow Video will bring renewed attention to Paramount Pictures’ 1971 WWII flick, Murphy’s War early in 2024.
The Moby Dick re-imagining of sorts is scheduled for release Jan. 30 on Blu-ray. It centers on its titular character, the single-named Murphy (Peter O’Toole — Lawrence of Arabia, The Lion in Winter, The Stunt Man) as he looks to avenge the death of his fellow sailors aboard a merchant ship after the vessel is attacked by a German sub. In his attempts to exact vengeance, Murphy does succeed but success comes at a very high price. The result will be left for audiences to discover for themselves.
The re-issue will feature a variety of bonuses, including and not limited to: a new visual essay titled, “Running Out Of War” by film critic David Cairns, “A Great Adventure,” an archived interview with the movie’s assistant director John Glen, and “One Man Army,” an archived interview with film critic Sheldon Hall.
A companion booklet with new liner notes composed by film critic Philip Kemp is also included with the re-issue.
Murphy’s War will retail for MSRP of $39.95. Pre-orders are open.
