Jan. 12 — Veteran musician Ricky Byrd opened the weekend with the premiere of another new single.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer (who has worked with the likes of Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, and Roger Daltry) premiered his latest single, ‘Rhapsody in Blues (one for Jeff)‘ Friday. The song is a tribute to the late great guitarist Jeff Beck, who died last January. Beck, who rose to fame as a member of The Yardbirds, died at the age of 78 after a decades long career that found him becoming one of the most influential and legendary guitarists of his time.
The musical arrangement featured in this composition is a completely infectious throwback to the golden age of rock, hinting at influence of The Beatles and so many other acts that rose to fame during that era.
Byrd talked extensively about the song’s creation and its meaning to him personally as a tribute in a prepared statement.
“The only way I felt I could properly pay tribute to Jeff Beck, whose playing has inspired me my whole life, was to record this track dedicated to him,” Byrd said. “This is a track I felt I needed to write. I did it as a thank you to Jeff. He was such an important part of the process for me as a guitar player. First as a teenager discovering all this cool new music I was soaking up, trying to learn a riff here and there (the easy ones ;)), to all these many years later where I’m still in awe of where he took guitar playing. And yes I’m still trying (mostly unsuccessfully) to nick one of his riffs. Thanks again Guv’nor.”
‘Rhapsody in Blues (One For Jeff) is just the latest new music from Ricky Byrd. He released three singles in 2023 in the form of ‘‘Louanne,‘ ‘Alien,’ and ‘Glandemic Blues.’
