Feb. 21 — Slayer fans have gotten a double dose of good news in only a matter of weeks.
Early this month, founding member and guitarist Kerry King announced the pending release of a new solo album and tour. That news was followed up Wednesday with the announcement that he is going to reunite with this brothers in Slayer five years after the band’s split.
With its return, Slayer is now scheduled to headline two major festivals this summer: The annual Riot Fest Sept. 20-22 in Chicago, IL and the annual Louder Than Life Festival Sept. 27 in Louisville, KY.
Front man Tom Araya expressed great joy at reuniting with King, drummer Paul Bostaph, and King’s fellow guitarist Gary Holt in a prepared statement.
“Nothing compares to the 90 minutes when we’re on stage playing live, sharing that intense energy with our fans, and to be honest, we have missed that.”” Araya said.
King echoed Araya’s sentiments in his own comments.
“Have I missed playing live? Absolutely,” King said. “Slayer means a lot to our fans; they mean a lot to us. It will be five years since we have seen them.”
The last time Slayer performed together was the finale for its farewell tour in November 2019. The band announced its then pending breakup in 2018 and launched its farewell tour in May 2018.
