March 12 — Lemmy Kilmister is sadly gone, but he and his legacy will never be forgotten.
Organizers of the annual Bloodstock Festival announced this week, they are making especially certain of this. The officials announced Thursday, that after working with Motorhead management, some of the legendary vocalist/bassist’s ashes will be kept in an urn at the festival site. Additionally, a bust of Kilmister will be commissioned as part of the permanent memorial.
Todd Singerman, Motorhead’s manager, spoke warmly of the agreement between management and Bloodstock organizers in a prepared statement.
“Bloodstock has always been a special place for Motörhead and for Lemmy,” Singerman said. “The people and the energy matched Lemmy’s values perfectly. Alan and Vicky were also great friends, and basically family of Lemmy, as he was the reason that they originally got together. This is definitely a fitting honor in the continuing series of enshrinements of Lemmy’s ashes in his most loved places.”
Bloodstock’s Vicky Hungerford shared the positive sentiments regarding the arrangement in her own statement.
“We were humbled and honoured to be approached by Motörhead management to have Lemmy’s ashes at Bloodstock,” Hungerford said. “Lemmy holds a very special place in everybody’s heart, but to myself and my husband he was the reason we met and fell in love. Nothing will mean more to us and the Bloodstock family than to honour his legacy and have Lemmy forever at Bloodstock.“
