March 6 — Prong has taken on a timeless classic from Rush as its latest single.

The band premiered its take on Rush’s ‘Working Man‘ Wednesday. The song is the fifth single from the band’s latest album, State of Emergency,’ which released in October through Napalm Records. The record has also produced the singles, ‘Non-Existence,‘ ‘Breaking Point,‘ ‘The Descent,’ and the album’s title track.

The musical arrangement featured in Prong’s cover sticks largely to its source material, right down to the work of legendary late great drummer Neal Peart. The only major difference between the original and this take of the song is that this update presents the song with Prong’s trademark metal approach. It is actually a surprisingly interesting take of the song, all things considered.

Prong founder and front man Tommy Victor talked briefly about the band’s cover in a prepared statement.

“Rush had the big riffs and that’s something Prong always wants as well,” Victor said. “Especially in the song ‘Working Man’ with that all-time classic opening riff. Prong being a power trio also connects us to this great Canadian band, and ironically we’re going out on tour with another great Canadian band, Vöivod!”

Prong launched its tour alongside Voivod Feb. 28 in Columbus, OH. The tour’s next scheduled stop is tonight in Berkeley, CA. The bands’ current tour schedule is noted below:
