March 20 — The Amsterdam Red Light District officially returned this week with the premiere of its new single and the song’s companion video.
The band unveiled its new single, ‘Black Smoke‘ and the song’s companion lyric video Wednesday. The band debuted the song through Red Light Records and Bloodblast-Believe. The song’s musical arrangement is an intense composition driven largely through its screaming vocals and equally intense guitar line. That pairing, along with the rhythm section, makes the whole comparable to works from the likes of Gojira and Turnstile.
The song’s lyrical theme centers on the familiar topic of battling mental health, according to a statement from the band.
“Like therapy, this new song deals about those moments when we get lost in dark thoughts,” the statement reads. “These moments when we spend our time enduring and resisting, more than living. Falling down, standing up: “And now I am the lamb that has become the wolf!””
The song’s video features its lyrics presented over footage of a man in a closed room, battling his personal demons as a television plays. The color change late in the presentation is meant to help illustrate a change in the man’s mental state.
