March 22 — The Intemperate Sons kicked off the weekend with the premiere of the video for its latest single.
The band debuted the video for its new single, ‘Control8‘ Friday. The song is just the latest preview of the band’s forthcoming album, Dark Day’s Night, which is scheduled for release June 20 through Frame|Work. The album has also produced the singles, ‘Once Again‘, ‘Lake of Poison,‘ ‘Faceless Man,‘ ‘Game of Keep Away,‘ ‘Way Back When‘ and ‘Unrealized.‘
The video is a dark psychedelic sort of presentation opening and closing with a jester marionette. As the song progresses, various other imagery, such as a man holding his head in his hands, chess pieces falling on a game board and a man seemingly in a strait jacket are shown.
According to information provided in a news release announcing the video’s debut, the overall presentation is meant to capture “the paradox of exerting control over others as a means to counterbalance the feeling of being controlled, wrapped in a visually striking and emotionally powerful story.”
That explanation of the visualization works in tandem with the song’s lyrical theme which was explained last week when the band premiered the song by itself. The information, provided in the news release at the time, explained the song’s lyrical theme “explores our tendencies as humans to control others through efforts to feel better about ourselves. Inadvertently, such behaviors are inherently destructive within without, and create a lonely existence. Maybe we should let go?”
The musical arrangement featured in ‘Control8′ continues to exhibit The Intemperate Sons’ grunge leanings while also adding in a very subtle doom touch for a composition that is quiet melancholy to say the least.
