June 17 — The Black Moods offered audiences a new preview of its forthcoming album this week.
The preview came in the form of the band’s new single, ‘Sugar‘ and the song’s companion video. The debut came Monday, more than two months after audiences got their first preview of the album in the form of ‘Heaven‘ and the song’s companion video.
The musical arrangement presented in the band’s latest single is a bluesy rock composition. Thanks to its production, it boasts a familiar sort of neo-garage rock vibe that has been used in so many songs from contemporaries of The Black Moods.
The song’s lyrical theme clearly centers on the all too familiar topic of relationships.
Front man Josh Kennedy spoke briefly about the song’s lyrical theme in a prepared statement.
“Lyrically, I think it paints a picture of passion and danger,” Kennedy said. The lyric, ‘Don’t forget I’m kinda crazy, cinematic, a little magic’ lends its hand to a bit of the dramatic. I feel it sets the scene for the song.”
According to information in the news release announcing the premiere of the new single and video, the song’s video is a wild west story involving a bank robbery “with a twist.”
