Aug. 28 — Jason Charles Miller unveiled the video for his latest single this week.
The former Godhead front man turned southern rocker premiered the video for his new single,’ ‘Digging in the Dust‘ Wednesday. The video’s premiere came more than a month after Miller premiered the single and its companion lyric video.
‘Digging in the Dust’ is featured in Miller’s new album (his fifth), Knives in the Dark. The album was released earlier this month through One Opportunity Records.
The video for Miller’s latest single features a dead astronaut who has crash landed on a foreign world. He is seen as a skull (or rather a skeleton) inside a space suit. He finds a picture of his lost love and follows what is in the picture to a happy ending of sorts.
Director Adam Fogel discussed the treatment in a prepared statement.
“Ultimately, it’s sort of how powerful love can be,”, said Fogel. “that love can bring somebody back from the dead and allow them to traverse miles and miles and be reunited with someone. At its core, it’s a simple story about human emotion, but told through the lens of this sprawling sci-fi, cosmic supernatural kind of thing.”
Miller expanded on the visualization in his own comments.
“Everyone brings their own history and experiences to the music they listen to, and they often apply the lyrics to their own lives with their unique viewpoints,” Miller said. This particular song and its video exemplify that idea. The song may have been written with one intention, but the individuals interpreting it might take it in another direction, though ultimately arriving at a similar understanding, showing that songs can resonate with people in different ways.”
Miller spoke on the song’s lyrical theme last month when the song debuted.
“Timing in relationships is everything. ‘Digging in the Dust’ is about a romance that’s long-since ended, but neither side wants to admit it,” said Miller of the inspiration behind his new single. “We’ve all seen that from afar, but the main character is just figuring out it’s happening to them. The inevitability of the situation is slowly being revealed, and this song is the realization of that moment, and the futility of any future together.”
In other news, Miller is on the road alongside Steel Panther. Having launched Aug. 23 in Buffalo, NY, the tour is scheduled to run through Sept. 14 in Jacksonville, NC. Following that run, Miller has select dates in South Korea and Japan scheduled, as well as a performance Dec. 14 in Los Angeles, CA.
