Aug.1 — Jinjer premiered its latest single and video this week.
The band premiered its new single, ‘Someone’s Daughter‘ and the song’s companion video Thursday. The song is a departure of sorts for Jinjer in comparison to the much heavier works for which the band has come to be known. This song is far more melodic, though there are some heavier moments throughout its four-minute-plus run time.
Vocalist Tatiana Shmayluk discussed the song’s clear feminist message at length in a prepared statement.
“´Someone’s Daughter´ is an artistic attempt to cast the light on the inner world of women, who in various scenarios and circumstances, have had to choose a path that was historically made by men,” Shmayluk said. “In a world where women are often underestimated and overlooked, they are still powerful heroes who navigate hardship with strength and resilience, unapologetically becoming themselves and breaking barriers in the face of the challenges that face them.”
She continued, “‘Someone’s Daughter’ celebrates transition from naivety into wisdom, weakness into force, unwavering determination and fearlessness as our mothers, sisters, daughters and wives walk through adversity and fight for better change. These women are often forgotten but they have earned respect. They‘ve earned mine, that’s for sure!”
The song’s video features Shmayluk dressed in period as various powerful women in politics, art, and even science as her band mates perform their respective parts to the song on a sound stage.
