Aug. 19 — Late next month, prog-metal outfit Sinner’s Blood will tentatively release its sophomore album, Dark Horizons.
In anticipation of its release, the band unveiled a new preview of the album Monday in the form of the album’s new title track and its companion video. The song is a heavy composition that immediately conjures thoughts of some of Dream Theater’s heaviest works alongside some of the heavier pure metal out there today. The staccato nature of the guitar line alongside the soaring vocals also lend the song’s arrangement to exhibit influence from the likes of Symphony X. The whole is a work that even with the comparisons in mind, is still unique to itself.
By comparison, the single’s predecessor and then most recent single, ‘Enemy‘ is more in line with works from the likes of Dragonforce and Myrath, what with its keyboard driven approach and sound than Dream Theater. That diversity in sounds and styles already exhibited gives promise for Sinner’s Blood’s forthcoming album.
The lyrical theme featured in ‘Dark Horizons’ is something of an existential rumination, according to a statement from guitarist “Nasson.”
“This song is about uncertainty and doubts about the future, even when wanting to escape from the past, and this is beautifully portrayed by our friend/director Daniel Pino on the music video,” he said. “Musically, it is one of the heaviest on the record and a very emotional ride with lots of different textures and moments”.
Speaking of the video, the presentation is a two-part visualization. One part of the video features the band performing its new single on a darkened sound stage. The other portion finds front man James Robledo traveling through a desert before reaching the sea and joining his band mates at the story’s end aboard a ship (perhaps the ship on the album’s cover).
Dark Horizons is scheduled for release Sept. 27 through Frontiers Music s.r.l.. The album’s track listing is noted below:
