On September 1st, 2024, A Drunk Driver Hit Legendary Historic Building By Drunk Driver-Hit Skip-(Current Tenant Char Bar-Former Funeral Parlor in the 1800’s.
The damage was structurally damaged so severe that the sidewalk was blocked off after the FD and Columbus Police Stayed On Scene till further notice while FD Left and was on Scene for around 45 Minutes to and Hour. Collapse Zone Setup due to how bad structural it cause.
Char Bar a historic venue in the Columbus, Convention and Nightlife Scene since 1960 before was a Funeral parlor in a Historic Building Across the street from Greater Columbus Convention Center.
The Bar was open during a busy Sunday Night the Eve official Holiday of Labor Day on Monday September 2nd, 2024.
One of the Patrons stated I Was sitting in Char Bar as this happened. Driver turned onto High from Vine. Kept on turning and plowed into the bar. CPD was on sight in 2-3 minutes. Officer I talked to said they got the driver. Drunk driver with Pennsylvania plates. . Thankfully no injuries! Just me, bartender, and like 4 or so other folks there. We’re gonna grab drinks and trauma bond next week. No injuries! CPD officer checked on us first. CFD cleared the building right after.
They caught the suspect down the street in Downtown, Columbus,Ohio.
