Dec. 5 — Shadows Fall premiered its first new music in more than a decade this week.

The band premiered its new single, ‘In The Grey‘ and the song’s companion video Thursday. The song’s musical arrangement is a full-on modern thrash composition that echoes influences of Exodus, Testament and other equally famed thrash acts that paved the way for Shadows Fall.

The song’s video is a standard style presentation. It features the band performing its new single on a soundstage. In the case of this setting, the stage is all black backdrop.

Front man Brian Fair said in a prepared statement, the song’s lyrical theme is a commentary about mental health.

“Lyrically, I was trying to put into words and describe the physical manifestation of the weight and crushing power that can come with depression, that feeling that the weight of gravity is crashing down on you or being trapped in the dark waters of our own mind, trying to rise to the surface and take a breath,” Fair said. “It can be an overwhelming and lonely place but there is always a light at the end of that tunnel and we always need to keep striving for a brighter day and escaping the grey.”

The debut of the new single and video was only some of the big news from Shadows Fall Thursday. The band also announced it has signed a record deal with MNRK. Details of the deal were not announced.
