Lineup Announced For “SatchVai Band”

Jan. 21 — The musicians who will join famed guitarists Joe Satriani and Steve Vai on the duo’s upcoming summer tour has been announced.

Kenny Aronoff, Marco Mendoza, and Pete Thorn will join the legends on drums, bass, and guitar respectively for the upcoming European “Surfing With The Hydra 2025 Tour.” The announcement was made Tuesday through a news release.

Satriani talked about bringing on the group in a prepared statement.

“Finding the right musicians for the SatchVai Band was at first a daunting task, then, an exciting one; there are so many great musicians to choose from!” Satriani said. ” “It’s no secret that the chemistry between players will always be the thing that makes them a magical live band, and we’ve found that chemistry with Kenny, Marco and Pete. The upcoming shows will focus on not only our respective solo works, but also the music from our new album. We are so excited to get this show on the road and celebrate it with all of our fans!”

Vai expanded on Satriani’s comments with his own statement.

“When considering forming one band around myself and Joe we talked about the qualities needed for each position, bass, drums, rhythm guitar,” he said. “It was a surprising challenge to find the right fits.”

Aronoff has recorded and performed alongside Satriani previously as a member of Chickenfoot, which also featured ex-Van Halen front man Sammy Hagar and bassist Michael Anthony. Additionally, Aronoff recorded drum parts for Satriani’s latest album, Elephants of Mars and performed alongside Satriani in place of Jason Bonham on the “Best of All Worlds Tour.”

Mendoza has his own pedigree, having recorded alongside the likes of Bill Ward (ex-Black Sabbath), Thin Lizzy, and Whitesnake.
