Former Mushroomhead Members Partner For New Single, Video From A Killer’s Confession; Tour To Launch Next Week

A Killer’s Confession debuted its latest single and video Friday, and the presentations proved plenty of reason for Mushroomhead fans to be excited.

The band, fronted by former Mushroomhead vocalist Waylon Reavis, debuted its new single, ‘In Case of Emergency,’ and the song’s companion video Friday. The song reunited Reavis with his longtime friend and fellow former Mushroomhead vocalist Jason “JMann” Popson while the video officially reintroduced another former Mushroomhead member turned newest AKC member, Richard “Stitch” Thomas to audiences.

Reavis discussed the creation of the new single and working with his longtime friend in a prepared statement.

“20 years ago, Jason “Jmann” Popson gave me an opportunity of a lifetime and I have forever been grateful,” Reavis said. “He hand chose me to be his successor, believed in me when no one else would. Last year, a mutual friend had passed away, and my wife Julie suggested I’d give him a call to find out what happened. This was the best decision I had ever made to pick up that phone. We started talking and before we knew it we were sitting in my studio writing “in case of emergency”. The song came out very organically and lyrically spoke of how Jason and myself truly feel. I’m so excited for this release because this will be the first release Jason and I have done in 10 years.”

Popson added to Reavis’ comments with his own statement.

“It was wonderful to create with Waylon again,” said Popson. “10 years later and we hadn’t skipped a beat, things clicked immediately, as if not a day had passed. I think we created something we both can be proud of. I hope people enjoy it as much as we enjoyed recording it.”

‘In Case of Emergency’ is the first new music from A Killer’s Confession since the release of the band’s latest album, Victim 1, which was released in late 2024 through MNRK Heavy. The overall musical arrangement featured herein is classic Mushroomhead in style, what with the dual vocal performances from Popson and Reavis. At the same time, Reavis’ death metal growl late in the song adds a whole new depth to the song, making for even more interest.

Seeing Thomas in his new mask and white coat adds its own unique visual touch to the video, which finds the trio in what looks like a scene from a horror flick.

No information was provided regarding the song’s lyrical theme in the news release announcing the debut of the new single and video. Only Reavis’ cryptic statement is the only hint as to the song’s theme. The lyrics provided with the video hint at learning from the past and making sure the errors of the past do not continue in the future; that the cycle of the past is stopped. That is just this critic’s interpretation.
