April 18 — Independent pop punk band Wilmette is set to release its new album this year.
The album will release through Mutant League Records and its title and release date are under consideration. In anticipation of its release, the band premiered the record’s lead single, ‘Playing Dead‘ and its companion video Monday.
The song’s musical arrangement presents a familiar pop punk style and sound. It is a composition that is easily comparable to so many of the band’s pop punk counterparts, well-known and independent. Its infectious guitar line and distinct vocal delivery style make that clear.
Front man Aaron Hailey talked about the band’s new single in a prepared statement:
“After a long break from writing, ‘Playing Dead’ was the first song we wrote together in over a year since our previous release,” Hailey said. “Much of the song came together in the studio, with the help of our producer Seth Henderson at ABG.”
No information was provided about the song’s lyrical them but the lyrics provided with the song’s video infer that it centers on the all too familiar topic of a broken relationship. That is just this critic’s interpretation.
The song’s video is as straight forward as its seeming lyrical theme. It features the band performing its new single on a sound stage as the song plays over the visualization. Special back lighting and video effects are used to enhance the presentation.
