The Sleeping Premieres New Album’s Lead Single, ‘The Animal’

-

May 26 — Independent punk rock band The Sleeping is giving audiences their first preview of the record this weekend.

The band premiered its new single, ‘The Animal‘ Friday. The song is the first single from the band’s forthcoming album, I Feel Like I’m Becoming A Ghost, which is scheduled for release July 28. The record’s release will make it the band’s first new record in approximately 13 years.

The fuzz from the guitars and the vocals and the use of the keyboards, and the overall almost percussive approach to the arrangement’s instrumentation gives the song a decidedly post-punk sound and style. It creates a certain emotion in listeners that fully immerses audiences in the song. A close listen actually makes the song’s overall arrangement somewhat comparable to early works from the likes of Project 86, interestingly enough.

According to front man Douglas Robinson, the song’s lyrical theme is somewhat existential in nature.

“‘The Animal’ is written about the anxieties we deal with on a regular basis, when the world outside of our inner circle invades our personal space,” Robinson said. “As we get older, our circle often gets smaller and the world around us feels a lot more intrusive.”
