June 16 — Republic Studios’ classic 1953 science fiction classic Invaders From Mars will get re-issued on separate 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD platforms this summer.
MVD Entertainment Group and independent movie studio Ignite Films have partnered to re-issue the movie July 11 on the noted platforms. It is expected to be made available — through the partnership — at the likes of Target, Best Buy, Walmart and online retailers, such as Amazon.
The original movie, which would later go on to be rebooted in 1986 in a far less enjoyable cut, centers on a small town whose adults are seemingly being controlled by aliens from Mars. When a young boy named David McLean (Jimmy Hunt — Pitfall, Rusty’s Birthday, Sorry, Wrong Number) and a nurse name Dr. Pat Blake (Helena Carter — The Golden Hawk, Something in the Wind, The Fighting O’Flynn) come face to face with the aliens, they discover that the threat is even more dangerous than originally thought as it is not necessarily the aliens who are fully responsible for taking over the townspeople’s brains.
A newly colorized, restored trailer for the original 1953 movie is streaming here.
The movie’s forthcoming re-issue will feature a bevy of bonuses, including an interview with Hunt and recollections with James Curtis, the biographer for William Cameron Menzies, before and after clips of the movie’s restoration, and a 20-page essay outlining the movie’s restoration project. The full list of bonuses is noted here.
The forthcoming re-issue of Invaders From Mars will retail for MSRP of $19.95 on DVD, $39.95 on Blu-ray, and $49.95 on 4K UHD.
