June 15 — Paramount Pictures’ 2011 movie, Hugo, will get a new re-issue next month courtesy of MVD Entertainment Group.
The movie, helmed by famed director Martin Scorsese, is scheduled for re-issue July 18 on separate Blu-ray and 4K UHD discs. Adapted from author Brian Selznick’s award-winning novel by the same name, its story focuses on a young orphan named Hugo Cabret (Asa Butterfield — Ender’s Game, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, The Space Between Us). Hugo lives in a train station in Paris, tending to the station’s clocks. In the process, he has to steal to survive, leading the station’s inspector (Sacha Baren Cohen — Bruno, Borat, Les Miserables) to pursue Hugo.
When Hugo is eventually caught by the owner of a toy booth at the station, he ends up becoming friends with the man’s granddaughter Isabelle (Chloe Grace Moretz — Kick–Ass, Let Me In, If I Stay). The duo’s friendship leads to discoveries about Hugo’s birth father, a mechanical man who plays its own crucial role in the story, and to a tribute to the history of cinema.
The movie comes with largely the same bonus content on its 4K UHD and Blu-ray platforms. Among the extras included with the movie are: a feature-length audio commentary by filmmaker/writer/author John Spira, publisher of The Lost Autobiography of George Melies; a new interview with Howard Stone about the movie’s musical score and an examination of George Melies’ life and career by French film historian and author Julien Dupuy.
The full list of bonuses included with the movie on each platform is provided at the links to each above. Hugo went on to win five Oscars following its debut. The movie has a 93% freshness rating from Rotten Tomatoes.
Hugo will retail for MSRP of $49.95 on 4K UHD Blu-ray and $39.95 on Blu-ray.
