June 23 — Veteran musician Ricky Byrd opened the weekend with the premiere of another new single.
Byrd, who is known best for his work with the likes of Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, premiered his new single, ‘Louanne‘ Friday. Its premiere came more than two months after Byrd debuted his then latest single, ‘Alien‘. That song’s premiere itself came a month after Byrd debuted his then latest single, ‘Glandemic Blues.’
Byrd talked about the song’s musical and lyrical content in a prepared statement.
“My last 2 records — Clean Getaway and Sobering Times — had lyrics that spoke to the
issues of addiction and recovery,” Byrd said. “With this new batch of tunes that I’m releasing as singles on Wicked Cool Records, I was consciously staying away from that subject matter. ‘Louanne’ started with the riff and chords, as do most of the songs I write. Then I start to mumble words and fool with a melody. As I was going through the usual process I blurted out “Louanne.. if anybody could you can.” Then came the line, “Why don’t you go on and get yourself right .. Louanne.” I knew at that point where I was headed! So I guess you can say lyrically Louanne is a song of encouragement for someone struggling with something, and the music is being driven by a nasty RnR riff.”
The song’s arrangement is exactly what Byrd said. It is a light, infectious composition that blends elements of Americana and blues very much in the vein of songs from the likes of Chuck Berry,
Along with working with Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Ricky Byrd has also spent time on the road with other equally well-known acts, such as Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Smokey Robinson, Steve Miller, Elvis Costello, Graham Nash, Sam Moore, Jimmy Page, Joe Walsh, Alice Cooper, Steven Van Zandt, Mavis Staples, Ian Hunter, and Brian Wilson.
Additionally, he has composed and recorded songs with the likes of The Who front man Roger Daltry.
