July 10 — Lola, the 2022 science fiction flick from Cowtown Pictures and Head Gear Films, will receive its American theatrical and streaming debut next month.
The movie is scheduled to make its American theatrical and streaming debut Aug. 4. Its story centers on the all too familiar topic of time travel (albeit in a unique fashion) as it follows two sisters — Thomasina “Thom” Hanbury (Emma Appleton — Everything I Know About Love, The Witcher, Pistol) and Martha “Mars” Hanbury (Stefanie Martini — Prime Suspect 73, The Last Kingdom, Make Up) — who have developed a technology that receives radio and television signals from the future. As the sisters use the machine that they built to look into the future, they decide to try and use it to help the Allies defeat the Nazis, but things do not necessarily turn out how they thought. The story is a unique take on a familiar plot device; that whole warning of trying to mess with future events and the consequences of those actions. The movie’s trailer is streaming here.
Lola is the directorial debut for Andrew Legge, who uses an approach here that is one part found footage and one part documentary. According to information provided about the movie, much of the movie was shot using period cameras to help enhance the presentation’s believability, and then processed through a 16-millimeter tank to further add to the movie’s look.
Not only did Legge direct Lola, but he co-wrote the movie’s script alongside Angeli Macfarlane. The movie was co-produced by Alan Maher and John Wallace.
