Amon Amarth Debuts Video For New Single, ‘Heidrun’; Releases ‘Heidrun’ Maxi-Single

Aug. 4 — Amon Amarth dug back into its latest album, The Great Heathen Army this week with the premiere of the video for its latest single.

The band debuted the video for its new single, ‘Heidrun’ (pronounced hay-druhn) Friday. The album has also produced the single, ‘Get In The Ring‘ and its companion video. The video opens with fake news reports of the band’s demise in a fiery accident during concert rehearsals before leading to the main story, which features the band members alongside a group of vikings in the halls of Valhalla, drinking and celebrating.

The band performs its new single in the setting as the collective group celebrates.

Front man Johan Hegg discussed the song and its video treatment in a prepared statement:

“Heidrun is an interesting mythological character, it’s a goat that stands on the roof of Valhalla eating the leaf of the big tree Lärad,” Hegg said. “The milk that she gives is the honey/mead that the warriors in Valhalla drink each night. The lyrics themselves are both about Vikings travelling the world but also metaphorically what it is to be a touring musician.”

In related news, Amon Amarth has released a new EP with two remixes of its new single. The four-song maxi-single/EP also features a live performance of the song at the 2023 Graspop Festival and a live performance of its standalone single, ‘Put Your Back Into The Oars’ at the 2023 Hellfest.

The recording can be downloaded and streamed at the link noted above.
