Dec. 6 — With only weeks to go until the release of its new album, Hiyo, Chatham County Line has given audiences another preview of the record.
The band debuted the video for its new single, ‘Magic‘ recently. The song and its video are the second from the album, which is scheduled for release Jan. 26 through Yep Roc Records. The group released the album’s lead single, ‘Right On Time‘ last month.
As with its predecessor, the album’s second single is, musically, easily comparable to works from the likes of fellow neo-folk/country act, The Avett Brothers, which is also from North Carolina. At the same time, there is a certain element to the song’s arrangement that makes it comparable — to a point — to works from the likes of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
No information was provided about the song’s lyrical theme in the news release announcing the premiere of the new single and video. The lyrics included with the song’s video point to the song seemingly being another romance tune of sorts, with its main subject anticipating the sparks that he hopes will fly between himself and his romantic interest. That is just this critic’s interpretation.
According to the information provided in the noted news release, the video for the new single was captured during country star Shania Twain’s Oct. 18 concert at the famed PNC Arena in Raleigh, NC. The band’s new single plays over the visualization, which features the band enjoying Twain’s concert and everything going on with the concert in and around the arena.
Speaking of tours, the band has also announced the early dates for its tour in support of Hiyo. The tour’s current itinerary is scheduled to launch Feb. 16 in Charlotte, NC and to run through April 26 in Wilkesboro, NC, with stops in Atlanta, GA and Charleston, SC along the way. Tickets are available for the current dates here.
