Deep Purple Premieres New Album’s Third Single, Video

July 8 — Deep Purple fans got another preview of the band’s forthcoming album, =1 this week.

The band debuted the album’s new single, ‘Lazy Sod‘ and the song’s companion video Monday. The song is the third single from the band’s forthcoming album, which is scheduled for release July 19 through earMusic. It has also produced the singles, ‘Pictures Of You‘ and ‘Portable Door.’

The musical arrangement featured in ‘Lazy Sod’ is classic Deep Purple’ as with the song’s predecessors. That is evidenced through the collective instrumentation and vocals. It is a welcome sound and style, too as it is familiar but still maintains its own unique identity. at the same time there is something about the arrangement that also makes it comparable (again in a good way) to work from the likes of Deep Purple’s fellow Brit rockers Foghat.

Front man Ian Gillan, talked about the song’s lyrical story in an interview with Rocks magazine last month.

“Recently, a young journalist asked me how many songs I had written in my life,” Gillan stated in the interview. “I replied that the last time my assistant counted, twenty years ago, it was over 500. I felt quite accomplished until she pointed out Dolly Parton’s 5,000 songs, calling me a lazy sod. I couldn’t help but agree and wrote down the exchange in my notebook.”

The video for Deep Purple’s new single is another familiar presentation. It finds the band performing its new single on a sound stage as the song plays over the visualization.
