As another year of Summerfest has just passed us by, the festivals 56th year to be exact. We’ll take a look at what this year had to offer. Summerfest also known as The Big Gig and the worlds largest music festival. It was held over 9 days, June 20-22, June 27-29, and July 4-6 and had over 600 bands on its sprawling 75 acre festival grounds along the Lake Michigan waterfront just south of downtown Milwaukee. The grounds are beautiful with trees lining the walk ways along the water and 12 permanent stages on the grounds that look really cool. Each stage has its own sponsor such as US Cellular, Generac and the main stage being the American Family Insurance Amphitheater. there are many more stages around the grounds other than the 12 main stages scattered between are other stages with smaller acts such as many unsigned bands and cover bands.

This is also much more than a music festival, you can find magicians, acrobats, comedians they also have the Gruber Law Offices Sports Zone which has a BMX Stunt team doing daily shows and also skateboarders from 4 Seasons Skate Park showing off their tricks. You’ll find all kinds of food and drinks to keep you going through out the day. As the festival opens at noon and goes till midnight each day. Also bring your walking shoes as the grounds are huge and depending what shows are on your agenda for the day, it could be a long walk stage to stage. Or you can always ride above the grounds on the sky glider which goes from one end to the other. There are also many vendors on the grounds and a couple large tents showcasing the vendors selling there products. I noticed many selling music memorabilia, clothes and many other items for purchase.

The cost to get into Summerfest is only $28.00 which is very cheap, considering all the bands you can take in each day everything from local bands to high caliber entertainment. If you want to catch the main stage concert each night that will cost you extra for reserved seats or lawn seats in the American Family Insurance Amphitheater. Those tickets are the normal price for the tours. This years main stage acts included Motley Crue, Keith Urban, Maroon 5, Lil Uzi Vert and SZA which even brought Kim Kardashian to the festival to watch her show.

Other notables from the many other stages around the grounds were Jesse Murph, En Vogue, Extreme, Chase Rice, Goo Goo Dolls, Alison Wonderland, Taking Back Sunday, and Boys Like Girls. The list goes on and on as there are over 600 bands. The US Cellular Stage even brought an evening of British bands with Jesus Jones, Modern English and EMF which is a rarity for the states. They all put on an amazing show! So it really does not matter what kind of music your into this festival has pretty much a great mix of every genre out there, new and old also.

Summerfest did run into some setbacks this year with rain, especially on June 22nd with the grounds getting evacuated in the evening for severe weather. Later on, everyone was allowed to come back onto the grounds when things calmed down. The music then went on including main stage act SZA. Being a summer festival dress accordingly also as it can be hot days, sunscreen would be a good idea also.

Summerfest is a festival that really is an amazing event to have here in Milwaukee, WI. This years it brought out just under 556,000 fans in the 9 day totals of the festival. There are so many fans come out every day or multiple days of the festival year after year. If you can only make it one day its definitely worth going to, especially all you can experience for only $28.00. This festival I always look forward year after year to seeing the complete lineup, which is usually announced sometime in March each year. Main stage acts are announced through out the year. So give Summerfest a follow on social media to keep updated on next years festival. They also have many other events on the grounds throughout the summer. Including German Fest, Irish Fest and other concerts at the American Family Insurance Amphitheater with many coming up in August and September.
