Sam Hunt brought his “Locked Up” Tour to Penn Heroes Stage at the Hollywood Casino at PNRC in Grantville PA on Saturday, 8/10. Sam is touring in support of his current EP “Locked Up”, which was released April 5th. Not only was the show a sell out, but it was the largest crowd at the venue since it’s opening in 2021! That’s quite a feat, stealing the attendance record from hometown favorite Bret Michaels. Traffic was backed up all the way onto I81 getting into the venue.
Dalton Dover opened the evening. Unfortunately, due to traffic, I missed the opportunity to photograph Dalton. I did arrive in time to see most of his set though. He did a great job of warming up the crowd with his hits, including “Bury Me in the Bar”, “If I Ain’t Got You”, and “You Got a Small Town”. On June 28th, he released his new single “Here’s the Deal”.
You could feel the anticipation in the air as it got closer to the time for Sam to take the stage. The crowd was ready for a show, all decked out in their hats and cowboy boots. Tonight was a night for all ages. I was struck by how many families were there with their little ones to enjoy the evening
The crowd erupted when Sam hit the stage around 8:00 pm. He opened with “23”. During the 3rd song of the evening, Sam ventured out through the crowd, truly making it a “House Party”. He made his way almost back to the soundboard before heading back to the stage, high fiving and shaking hands as he went. The crowd sang along to all the hits. He performed “Cop Car” and “We are Tonight”, which Same wrote and Keith Urban and Billy Currington had hits with. Perhaps one of the most surprising songs of the night was guitarist Tyrone Carreker’s rendition of Walk the Moon’s “Shut Up and Dance with Me”. I waited all night to hear “Body Like a Backroad” and “Break Up in a Small Town” The live version did not disappoint!
