Steve Dadaian debuted his latest single, ‘Garden of Stars’ this week.
The single is the latest from Dadaian’s forthcoming album, Revenant City, which is scheduled for release May 9 and features a guest appearance by Dream Theater keyboardist Jordan Rudess. The single premiered through consequence.net.
Clocking in at just over five minutes (five minutes, two seconds to be exact), the full-on instrumental performance is a powerful jumping on point for new audiences and just as strong for Dadaian’s established audiences. That is due to its overall composition. From beginning to end, Dadaian and Rudess present a solid blend of progressive metal a la Dream Theater as well as some subtle pog-metal/djent lean in the vein of TesseracT roughly halfway through the song. That whole makes the song quickly and easily accessible for a wide range of audiences.
The song’s video is a simple presentation featuring Dadaian and Rudess in their own respective studio settings recording their parts to the song.
Dadaian shared his thoughts on working with Rudess on the song in a prepared statement, noting the experience was positive.
“‘Garden of Stars,’ featuring Jordan Rudess, was one of the last songs I finished working on for the album and when I presented it to Jordan, he added elements that not only competed but elevated the song,” Dadaian said. “It’s a great representation of modern progressive metal and the album with heavy riffs, technical and melodic leads, and orchestral arrangements.”
Dadaian continued, “It opens with a unison lead between both of us to set the stage and even in section where the keyboard leads aren’t apparent, Jordan arranged ambient textures to follow the chord changes. The collaboration was very natural and casual as we were working on ideas in the studio; it turned out to be one of my fcks on the album.
Rudess said in his own statement, he appreciated working with Dadaian just as much.
“I’ve had the pleasure to work with Steve Dadaian on a number of songs, both on my own album and his upcoming release, Revenant City,” Rudess said. “Not only is his guitar playing off the charts, his songwriting and musicianship is also next level which I really value and that sets him apart.”
Rudess added, “We had a lot of fun with this one; the leads are energetic and the ambient and orchestral parts add a whole different dimension I think listeners will love. I’m looking forard to everyone hearing ‘Garden of Stars’ and all our future collaborations together.”
‘Garden of Stars’ is just one of the songs on which Jordan Rudess guests on Steve Dadaian’s new album. He also adds his talents to the song, ‘Shadowborne.’ Additionally, Rudess is just one of the guest musicians enlisted for Revenant City. Marco Minnemann (The Mute Gods, Joe Satriani, The Sea Within) provides performances on drums on ‘Barons of the Sky’ and ‘The Story of Life.’
