Aug. 22 — Of Mice & Men gave audiences another preview of its next album, Tether, this week.
The band debuted the album’s second single, ‘Castaway‘ and the song’s companion video Tuesday. The premiere came almost a month after the band debuted the album’s lead single, ‘Warpaint‘ and its video.
Where the musical arrangement in ‘Warpaint’ takes the band in a heavy, almost industrial metal direction, the band’s latest single is more of a familiar style metalcore work from the veteran band. The change in sound and style is notable throughout the song.
According to a statement from the band, the song’s lyrical theme is a discussion on the connections with those who are going through difficult situations but who essentially refuse help.
“‘Castaway’ is about longing for connection with the people in our lives who tend to distance themselves when dealing with hardships, and how our inability to help them often feels like we’re frozen in time,” the statement reads.
The song’s theme is illustrated through the video, which features a young woman making her way through an abandoned cityscape as the song plays over the visualization. The woman is obviously facing a variety of thoughts and emotions as she makes her way through the city, at one point, flipping off a camera that follows her.
