Aug. 3 — Queens of the Stone Age is giving audiences yet another taste of its newly released album, In Times New Roman.
The band premiered the video for its new single, ‘Negative Space’ Thursday. The lyric video for what is now the album’s fourth single, features a masked man making his way through space, eventually finding his own body and reviving himself as the song’s lyrics play over the science fiction-themed presentation and as the song plays over the visualization.
The man in the video is played by Liam Lynch, who also created the video. Lynch talked about how the video’s treatment played into the song’s lyrical theme.
“Acceptance is lonely, messy, and tough, especially when it’s all that is left,” Lynch said. “This video takes place between the end and a beginning. It’s the desperate and lost, message-in-a-bottle emotions that are tossed out and let float away. No action required.”
The musical arrangement featured in the band’s new single is an interesting presentation in itself. It blends the band’s familiar stoner rock leanings with a subtle, melancholy hard rock influence for a work that is wholly original in its own right.
