Aug. 31 — Silent Skies, the side project of Evergrey front man Tom S. Englund and pianist/composer Vikram Shankar (who are also members of the prog-metal band Redemption), released its latest album, Dormant, Friday.
The band released the album’s third single, ‘Reset‘ and the song’s companion video Thursday, ahead of the album’s release. As with the album’s two other singles, the song’s arrangement is a very melancholy composition, driven largely by its piano line. The string arrangement that accompanies the piano line makes the song all the more deeply moving.
According to a statement from the band, the song’s lyrical theme is an existential rumination of sorts.
“Our third single, ‘Reset,’ from the album Dormant, explores issues of identity and inner spirit,” the statement reads. “Many of us struggle with feelings of dissatisfaction, a lack of inner peace, and pressure to meet societal expectations. The journey of self-actualization is difficult, and both external and internal forces work against us. Each day presents new obstacles as we strive for serenity and purpose. ‘Reset’ serves as an introspective examination, a candid and unfiltered reflection of our deepest existential worries, and, most importantly, an invocation to rediscover, revitalize, and reconnect with our true selves.”
The video for the new single is also presented much in the same format as the videos for the album’s two other singles. It is a side-by-side presentation that features Englund on one side and Shankar, in the studio, on the other. Englund performs his portion of the song out in nature while Shankar provides the keyboard line.
Dormant produced its second single, ‘Churches,’ early this month. Its release was preceded by that of the album’s lead single, ‘Construct.‘
Dormant is Silent Skies’ third album. Nectar, the duo’s sophomore offering, was released in 2022. It was preceded by the duo’s debut album, Satellites in 2020. Dormant‘s track listing is noted below along with all of the platforms through which it will release.
