The Allman Brothers Band opened the year with the release of another key concert recording, Manley Field House: Syracuse University – April 7, 1972. The concert featured in the recording was a rare “five-man-band” presentation. The performance was recorded a short time after original front man Duane Allman’s untimely passing. Allman died in October 1971, only months prior to the concert.
As a result of Allman’s passing, the band’s lineup at the time of the concert consisted of the band’s five original members: Gregg Allman on vocals and keyboards, Dickey Betts on guitar, Berry Oakley on bass, and the two-man drummer/percussionist team of Butch Trucks and Jaimoe.
The recording’s release back in March, was its first-ever.
