July 24 — Mercury Studios has re-opened the Rainbow live vault.
The company (nee Eagle Rock Entertainment) announced Wednesday, it is scheduled to re-issue Rainbow’s 1977 concert in Munich, Germany Sept. 19 on a 2 CD/DVD set. The release will mark the first time since 2016 that Mercury Studios has released an archived concert from Rainbow. That release was Monsters of Rock – Live at Donington 1980.
Rainbow: Live in Munich 1977 was originally released separately on DVD and 2CD packages, so the forthcoming re-issue will mark the first time the separate recordings will have been presented in one package. The concert is the only full recorded performance of Rainbow that features the lineup of Donnie James Dio, Ritchie Blackmore and Cozy Powell. Bob Daisley (bass) and David Stone (keyboard) rounded out the lineup.
The DVD portion of the recording features as bonuses, videos for the songs, ‘Long Live Rock ‘N’ Roll,’ ‘Gates of Babylon,’ and ‘L.A. Connection.’ Additionally, it also includes a photo gallery, slideshow with audio commentary, and the bonus feature, “Rainbow Over Texas ’76,” which features extra interview and concert footage.
