Sept. 25 — Ray Charles’ own label, Tangerine Records, is set to re-issue four of his classic albums and one new compilation record between this and next month.
Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music and its follow-up Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music Vol. 2 are set for release Friday. They will be followed Oct. 18 with the re-issue of two more records, Country & Western Meets Rhythm & Blues and Crying Times. A new compilation, Best of Country & Western is set for release Oct. 15.
Valerie Ervin, Ray Charles Foundation President, said she was looking forward to the forthcoming re-issues in a prepared statement.
“We’re beyond thrilled to present these definitive albums, which chronicle the breadth and depth of Ray Charles’ unprecedented contribution to the country music landscape,” Ervin said. “I’m pleased to make this music widely available not only on streaming platforms, but also in authentically reproduced original vinyl version so that everyone can experience the Genius of Ray Charles as it was originally presented.”
